A Public demonstration has been organised by the Mudeford Wood Community Centre Users & Residents Group to prevent the closure of the centre.
Meet outside the centre at 11am to show your support.
Petition also available along with consultation questionnaires
We need your support to save these essential facilities for your community.
· The council say the facility has only 34% usage. This figure has been calculated by comparing the facility to Two Riversmeet. But we are not a Sports Centre we are a Community Centre with some sports facilities. There are over 600 users of Mudeford Wood Community Centre each week and Mudeford Wood Playgroup and Mother & Toddler group are both thriving.
· The council say the facilities cost the borough £76k per annum. We dispute the accuracy of these figures and even if these figures were correct, this equates to less than a £2 a year for each person living in the borough. Did you know that Two Riversmeet cost nearly £400k per annum to the borough?
· The council say they have marketed the building. We could find no evidence of advertising or marketing and the Playgroup has only recently been denied a larger sign at the entrance to Brabazon promoting the facility.
The facilities at Mudeford Wood Community Centre are now trouble free, in good general order and support many different user groups. We feel that with a new management structure, incorporating both users and residents, and a few improvements, the centre will attract more users and continue to play a key role in the wellbeing of the local community.
