The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr David Flagg, took to the controls of the mechanical digger to break the earth as work commenced on the new splashpark on the Quomps at Christchurch Quay.

With the old paddling pool on the site taken away, the splashpark can now begin to take shape. Contractors will be working to produce the new water features and shallow pool over the next few weeks ready for an opening in early summer.

The Mayor said: “While it was sad to see the old paddling pool go, it had really had its day and the new modern splashpark is a very exciting prospect to take its place.

“I’m proud to have been on site to start the work off and look forward to seeing the finished splashpark in the summer.”
