Friars Cliff Beach Litter Survey

The next beach litter survey at Friars Cliff Beach in Christchurch takes place on Sunday 5 July at 10.30am, meeting on the wave wall below Steamer Point Car Park. These events have been run quarterly for the past year and have been a huge success with a total so far of over 15,000 items of litter collected. Data is gathered on the type and amount of litter during the events, which is as important as removing the litter, so research can be carried out into sourcing where it has come from. Information gathered during the surveys will help build a better picture of how litter varies with environmental and seasonal factors. It will also be used to raise awareness of the problems and dangers of coastal and marine litter to both humans and wildlife through the Marine Conservation Society's (MSC) Adopt-a-Beach Scheme. The surveys will continue to be held on a quarterly basis at Friars Cliff as part of the Adopt-a-Beach scheme. Results from the surveys can be found on at www.dorsetforyou.com/index.jsp?articleid=389371

I bet this will show quite how bad littering has got - it just depresses me so much.
