The Information Centre in Christchurch's High Street had its busiest year ever recorded in 2008 - 2009.
From April 2008 – March 2009 174,850 visitors crossed the threshold, an increase of 11 per cent on the same year last year.
Sara Stewart-Haddow, Information Centre Manager, said: "We are delighted with this result. Despite the economic downturn we have had a record number of visitors this year. With the promise of a sizzling summer we are looking forward to another very busy year. Many people will be thinking about having holidays in this country or staying at home and making the most of local attractions, beaches and events. It is good to know that, as well as being an information centre for tourists, we also provide a valuable service to our residents."
A recent audit of Christchurch Council’s Tourism department received an exceptional auditor’s report with no weaknesses found and no action required. The audit involved Tourism Promotion including publications, Christmas Lighting and the Christchurch Information Centre.
