The NHS Foundation Trust has issued a public consultation, entitled ‘Protecting Our Future’, on the proposed changes which include relocation of certain wards and services currently at Christchurch Hospital to Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Members of the public were welcome to attend, although they were not
able to speak. However, it's not too late if you wish to raise any
concerns or have input and are invited to contact their ward councillor
to raise any points on their behalf. The consultation is open until 20 December 2009.
The Committee invited Richard Renaut, Director of Service Development at Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals, who will gave a presentation about the proposed changes. Representatives of local GP surgeries also were invited to attend, along with representatives of residents’ associations in the Borough and parish councils.

I think people are quick to get into a big huff about hospitals when they don't realise that the CARE IS FREE. Go and injur yourselves in America and see exactly how large the costs are. The ambulance that comes to collect you also charges a few hundred dollars for that service. I wish people would stop moaning and understand that it's a huge institution and it serves us well. Be thankful for it and stop taking it out on staff.

ReportThe meeting last night revealed a rather angry gathering. With some of the changes already taken place, members of the public wh attended felt it was rather a "statement of fact" rather than one of intent.
Local organisation such as the Macmillan Trust, based Christchurch hospital told the meeting that they didn't know of the document until recenlty. The proposed changes mean that only the Macmillan Unit, a trimmed down dermatology ward, orthopaedic rehabilitation ward, outpatients and day hospital ward will remain open come April 2010.
The consulation was called a "sham" and this lead to others calling into question the whole hospitals future. "there is no intention to lose Christchurch Hospital" assured the hospitals trust Chief Executive, Tony Spotswood.
Time will tell !
