A Great Success!

Christchurch Community Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular Raises over £7,500 for local Youth causes

Some 5,000 people converged on Stanpit Recreation Ground on the evening of 7th November to enjoy the Christchurch Community Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular organised by Christchurch Rotary Club with the support of many local organisations and businesses.

“After last year’s near wash-out, we were so relieved that the weather turned out well by the time we were lighting the bonfire,” said Bonfire Organiser Rtn. David Crumpler. “After a rather mixed day we had quite a dry evening, and the public turned out in force. I want to thank them - and also the local organisations who supported us in so many ways to make the event a real success, with stalls and entertainment. For me, as always, the key thing was the genuine community atmosphere, with so many different groups coming together to create a fun event, providing lots for everyone to do, or eat, or drink!

“Because of the excellent turnout, we have raised over £7,500 for the benefit of local youth causes, in addition to creating a family event where a spectacular fireworks display could be watched in complete safety thanks to the professionals involved.

“We are delighted that this year the Bonfire was once again graced by the presence of our Mayor, Cllr David Flagg and Mrs Flagg.

“We are most grateful to our generous local bonfire sponsors - especially principal sponsor Stewarts Garden-Lands and media sponsor the Bournemouth Daily Echo - for helping to make this event ever more successful. Although the direct costs of the fireworks are covered by admission fees, these donations and support in kind by sponsors help to underwrite the whole evening, and so make the event even more successful in raising money for local youth organisations.

“With all this year’s extra touches, including a funfair roundabout for younger visitors, and two performances from the ever-popular Gugge Band, this was a better event than ever, providing great fun on the evening for young and old, and raising lots of money for Christchurch youth causes. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone again next year!”

I love how we forget about the environment and just torch everything for a few measley youngsters. Why not have other ways of raising money that don't involve killing plantlife and destroying the environment?
