Bournemouth Borough Council has signed up to the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) national Small Business Engagement Accord. They join Christchurch Council as the first councils in Dorset to do so. The Accord is a new initiative which sees local councils signing up to 14 Accord Principles which promote the importance of listening to the views of small businesses.
The Principles include nominating business engagement champions from among the business community and within the council, as well as encouraging greater consultation with a wider range of business and community leaders. The Accord is the next step of the FSB's Keep Trade Local Campaign.
Chairman of the Wessex Region, Ken Moon, said: “The FSB in Dorset is very pleased that Bournemouth Council has made a commitment to small businesses in their areas. By signing the Accord the council is saying that small businesses will have greater access to decision makers. Working together we can ensure that the voice and concerns of small businesses are heard and that our local economies thrive.”

This is a great idea to keep local businesses afloat and still manageable. It's so annoying when Tesco opens up and the 24/7 or the newsagent starts to lose business. We need to look after our local businesses as local people!!
