First over 60's Sunday Social is a roaring success

Around seventy over-60s from Christchurch were treated to lunch and
an afternoon of bingo at the first ‘Sunday Social’ recently – a
new monthly event organised by the Institute of Commercial Management
(ICM) and Forerunner Personal Catering, Bournemouth’s largest meals on
wheels provider.
Free-of-charge for all, the event is hoped to offer the older
residents of the Borough something a little bit different on a Sunday
afternoon – especially for those who may not receive many visitors or
find it difficult to venture far from their homes.
Held at the beautiful Greystones Estate in Highcliffe, Dorset, the
Sunday Social started with a delicious meal prepared and delivered
ready-to-serve by ‘meals on wheels’ company Forerunner, one of its
chief sponsors and organisers.
Followed by an afternoon of bingo with 16 prizes up for grabs,
guests openly expressed their gratitude and enjoyment as they left.
It is hoped that future Socials will feature a wide variety of
entertainment – from live bands, singing and dancing, to informative
talks and classic card and board games.
While many guests travelled to Greystones Hall independently, taxis
were provided by Brendancare for its club members, and it is hoped in
the future that a minibus could be run to assist those who cannot
otherwise attend.
Co-sponsors of the event Forerunner and ICM were delighted with the
turnout and the wealth of appreciation from guests. Managing Director
of Forerunner, Declan O’Toole, said: “Our first Sunday Social was a
great success. The people who came really seemed to have a good day and
were very appreciative. It’s nice to be able to give something back to
the community and have it appreciated. It was a great partnership
between ICM and Forerunner. We’re all already looking forward to the
next one.”
Guests were invited to book through a number of organisations who
are also supporting the event – Brendancare Dorset, Lions of
Christchurch, Age Concern Christchurch, and Dorset Partnerships for
Older People Projects (POPP). The next Sunday Social is planned for 5
July - more details to follow.
The team behind the Sunday Social is looking for acts, shows and
talks that would be of interest to the over-60s. If you are a
performer, drama group, band, tutor, or lecturer, please do get in
touch for a fantastic opportunity to entertain and inform a very
appreciative audience.
Volunteers and hosts are also needed to assist the smooth running of
the event and comfort of its guests, so if you feel you might be able
to offer any help at future Sunday Socials, please get in touch with
Heidi Lees-Bell or Emily Cole at ICM on 01202 485510.

A little confused about that Fizz. Hope all is well.
My grandparents do the same sort of thing in France but play cards. Now they're never at home. Great event!

ReportThis is a great thing to offer the early in our community, a shame my gran doesn't live here. I know she'd appreciate a day out like this.
