Christchurch Primary Pupil Council have presented a petition to Christchurch Council asking for graffiti walls to be erected in the borough’s parks.

The text of the petition reads:
“We have noticed that the graffiti and tagging across Christchurch Parks makes the place look less inviting to the children, young people and grown ups that these parks were designed for. Tagging and graffiti makes both grown ups and children feel uncomfortable as it is often linked to gangs. A graffiti wall would help to prevent people from vandalising property with graffiti and also provide a place where those with real artistic talent could display it.
We the undersigned call upon Christchurch Borough Council to build graffiti walls in the parks across Christchurch.”
The petition was signed by 319 pupils from Mudeford Junior, Highcliffe St Mark’s Church of England and Somerford Primary Community Schools.
The petition was presented at the Council meeting by representatives of
the Pupil Council, Ryan Hall and Kate MacAlister from Somerford Primary Community School and Finlay Taylor from Burton Primary School.
It was received by the Mayor, Cllr Nick Geary who promised the school
children that it would be passed to the Community Services Committee where it will be given proper consideration. The Pupil Council will be invited to that meeting to hear the decision.
What do you think ? Do you think that such "Graffiti Walls" would stop graffiti sprining up around town ?

Good idea but would that stop people from using other places to graffiti - graffiti is not just a way of expressing yourself using art etc but is a type of vandalism too . . ? Vandalism occurs even in the safest of places; x

ReportA good idea, but who would monitor the walls for content and when would they be white washed over so kids can start again? If it helps keep graffiti out of Christchurch then I'm all for it.
