Sunday 20th June was the annual Burton Veterans and Armed forces day.

The whole thing got off to a splendid start with Bagga Blues opening the event on the village green.

The parade was well attended despite the armed forces being deployed elsewhere and the village had a good turnout with numbers being up on last year.

Christchurch Air Training Cops attended and took part in the parade and also their squadron band played a few war time tunes on the green. Even the veterans joined in and sung It's a Long Way to Tipperary with them.

The sun shone and the green was awash with people enjoying themselves whilst, at the same time remembered those who have served and are currently serving their country.

The Flag was lowered to mark the end of the days proceedings, to the sounds of the Royal British Legion Band, Christchurch playing Finale No.1 with Sgt. Emmett from the local Christchurch ATC playing The Last Post.

Do you think events like this are a good idea ? Do they bring the community together and have a feel good factor or do you have other thought.

I agree. Two parades a year, one for the local boys and girls and one for Rememberance Day.

It's all well and good Remembering one Sunday every year that people died for our liberty. We shouldn't have to wait for national days of rememberence to recognise the difficult job our armed forces do. Let them come and march for us all a couple of times a year, so we can pay them the proper respect.

I agree, events like this bring people together. Sometimes I think we don't do enough to thank, or support, the boys and girls who fight for our country and our freedom, and freedom everywhere for that matter.

I think events like this are really good for the community. The atmosphere was a really friendly one and the bands that were on were good too. The beer tent was a must and a pint or two went down really well in the sunshine, however disappointing that the coke wasn't put in their fridge !

We had a really nice day.
