Work to stabilise the quay wall next
-
Work to begin on footpath wall at Town Quay, Christchurch
to the footpath running along the side of Town Quay in Christchurch begins on
Monday 28 March.
Christchurch Council’s coastal
engineering team last year undertook a survey of the wall, which is a popular
walk for residents and visitors alike, and found a section which was deemed to
be unsafe.
A two-tier layer of limestone
blockarmour will be placed against the front of the most unstable section of
the wall, around 40 metres in length, which will provide stability for at least
five years.
A more detailed design analysis for
a longer term solution will then be undertaken, subject to funding being
available in the future.
The work, which is being undertaken
by the Council’s coastal engineering team assisted by Neptune Plant, is likely
to take around two weeks.
