Do you think it's a good idea that all residential street lights are to be switched off after midnight in Dorset?
By switching off between midnight and 5.30am, the county council hopes to save 10% of its annual energy bill. Similar programmes have been implemented by local authorities across the UK.
The council say the scheme will not affect ctraffic routes, town centres, areas with high crime rates or others with significant highway use after midnight – the lights will remain on all night on these roads.
But it does beg the question: 'what's a traffic route?

It also begs the question if the lights are turned off in outlying areas does this mean all the criminals will move there to operate under the cover of darkness, rather than stay around the lighted town where they might actually be seen? I don't think this has been thought through very well.

A very good idea, but they could go further. Do we really need street lamps on during the hours of 2am -5am? I don't think so, so turn them off.
