The idea was to bring schools into the Environment Area of the CCC, by proposing a creative project, which as much as possible used recycled items, eg. Cardboard, plastic tubes, plastic bottle tops, etc. As we are assembling part of the CCC in the Druitt Gardens, the theme of animals and wildlife was proposed, and this can be a realistic interpretation, or a fantastical one!
The sculptures will be on display during the CCC on 29 May, but will be judged on the Friday 28 May by Peter Holloway, Countryside Services, Christchurch Borough Council, who will visit both schools (The Priory and Somerford Juniors). A winner will be chosen for each school, and that winner will receive a certificate and the school will receive a £15 voucher from Stewarts, to invest in plants or a tree for the school. The two winning sculptures will be affixed with some kind of “Award” so that visitors to the Gardens on the day can see who won.
The winners, plus possibly a selection of others, will also then go on display at the Information Centres at Stanpit Marsh and Steamer Point. We are also hoping that each sculpture will have a brief explanation of what was used and how the children made it. It is hoped that the sculptures will complement the CCC’s environment area and get young people involved with both environmental issues and the CCC
