BURGLAR WHO STOLE FROM DISABLED WOMAN JAILED

Behind Bars - Anthony Brian Swift
who broke into the home of an elderly disabled woman and stole her handbag
and other valuables while she slept has been sent to prison.
In addition to a two-year prison sentence for a separate
burglary and breach of a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement and Community Order,
Anthony Brian Swift was given a five year jail term for the burglary –
a total of seven years imprisonment.
The 43-year-old of no fixed abode was sentenced at Bournemouth
Crown Court on Thursday 24 February 2011.
The court
heard how Swift had broken into the woman’s flat in Gervis Road,
Bournemouth, overnight on Friday 11 June 2010 stealing antiques and her
handbag from her walking frame.
Swift was
arrested for burglary and bailed pending further enquiries on Monday 14 June
2010. He was re-arrested on Friday 18 June 2010, following a police
operation.
Detective Inspector Michael Mullen, of Dorset Police, said:
“This was a complex, lengthy and labour-intensive police surveillance
operation and I am delighted that the enduring efforts of our officers and
staff have led to this prolific burglar being put behind bars.”
At Bournemouth Crown Court, Swift pleaded not guilty to the
burglary in Gervis
Road. He
pleaded guilty to the separate burglary.
The investigating officer on the case was Detective Sergeant
Garry Knight.
The Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor in the case was Carolyn
Branford-Wood.

When released he should be forced to look after her daily needs for six months, to see for himself how the theft affected her.
