Christchurch's Waterloo Bridge is due for a full repair next week after a summer of patch-ups.

The road will be closed from 5pm on Sunday 16th and all day Monday 17th September. The adjoining footbridge will remain open.

The bridge was resurfaced last September however the surface began to break down in June and became pot-holed. Just one year later the entire surface will be removed and replaced.

The council has been putting off resurfacing work over the summer so as not to disrupt the tourist season and Olympic Torch procession.

    Wrong!
    .
Dorset CC is responsible for the resurfacing, CBC were powerless until I wrote to DCC pointing out it was part of the torch relay route and invited The Echo take photographs!
    .
And again last month I complained to DCC that the surface was again in a dangerous condition and had I not, I guarantee Waterloo Bridge would not have been patched up until next weeks resurfacing.
    .
CBC are basically been unable to put pressure on DCC until a member of the public complains to them.
    .
Full marks to Nick Geary for taking a positive interest though, which is more than can be said for The Dear Leader.
    .
Let this be a lesson to all who sit at home complaining, that solves nothing, write to the relevant authority and cc Katy Clark at The Echo!
