Scouts, guides and brownies from groups in Christchurch helped the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle, to distribute her goodwill parcels to nominated recipients around the Borough.

Parcels of foodstuffs or plants and chocolates were handed out to 57 people thanks to the generosity of local businesses who donated money or goods to the Mayor's Goodwill Fund. £690 was raised from the businesses.

The lucky recipients were nominated by local charities, churches, doctors' surgeries and social services.

The Mayor said: "I would like to say a big thank you to the businesses that came forward with donations and, of course, my thanks also go out to the many scouts, guides and brownies who gave up their Sunday morning to help distribute the parcels.

"This time of year can be a difficult one for the less fortunate among us and I hope that receiving these gifts will help make Christmas a little brighter."

The Mayor's Goodwill Fund runs throughout the year and if anyone would like to make a donation to it they can contact the Mayor's secretary, Tina Dudley on 01202 495134 or email
