One fabulous granny and one fantastic granddad will celebrate National Grandparent's Day in luxury with a selection of treats from Saxon Square Shopping Centre after being crowned Grandparents of the Year.
Una Towers and John Towers from Poole, Dorset, were nominated by their daughter in law Debbie on behalf of their 14 month year old grandson Jake, to win the prestigious title.
The couple was chosen for their dedication to their grandchildren. Una and John look after Jake while his parents work full-time, whilst also being handy around the house and generally being kind and generous. They also take care of his cousin to give rest bite to his un-well aunt.
Upon hearing the news that they had won, Una said "We are so pleased to have been named Grandparents of the Year. Being a grandparent is an extremely rewarding and special role and we are always so proud of our grandchildren. It's lovely to be able to celebrate Grandparent's day knowing that they are proud of us."
The grandparents enjoyed an afternoon of shopping and dining courtesy of the Centre, followed by a relaxing treatment from The Bay Tree Health Store and Therapy Centre and a pedicure at Harbour Beauty.
National Grandparent's Day (06 October 2013) is a holiday established by Age Concern in 1990 to recognise the hard work and support grandparents give all year round. The competition gave grandchildren the opportunity to explain in 300 words why their grandparents were the best.
Bryan Taylor, Centre Manager at Saxon Square Shopping Centre, said: "We welcome lots of families to Saxon Square. The relationship with a grandparent is a special one and at Saxon Square Shopping Centre, we think it is really important to celebrate grandparents who really deserve recognition."
