Christchurch-based independent electrical retailer Purewell Electrical has announced the purchase of the former Dreams bed retail shop in the town with a new 15,000 square foot store due to open next summer.

The store in Wilverley Road will create a number of new jobs in customer services, deliveries, online sales and in a new business-to-business trade account department.

Managing Director Ian Griffiths said: "I am delighted to secure the future of our company in what will be our 59th year in Christchurch, and hope to provide a shopping experience like nowhere else in the area for electrical products.

"It has been a very difficult industry of late, with the recession leading to the demise of Comet and other smaller independent retailers, and I feel that now is the time to expand.

"We have a great team who have been working hard and we want to thank our many loyal customers who shop with us - we hope to give them a reason to carry on shopping with us over the coming years in what I hope will be a state of the art technology and kitchen store".

The new store will be over two floors and will see an increased range of technology and home solutions, as well as live cookery demonstrations and a cook shop, with almost £2million being invested before opening in summer 2014.

Purewell Electrical is owned by Ian Griffiths, whose late father Arthur founded the company in 1955 in Purewell. Today it is one of the largest independent electrical retailers in the country and part of the Euronics buying group.
