Christchurch residents who find it difficult to access ordinary bus services will be riding on a new bus as part of the Christchurch Dial-a-Bus scheme.

The scheme has now procured its first 17-seater accessible minibus. The overall project was financed by funds from the Big Lottery administered Transition Fund, Bournemouth Airport Community Fund, Christchurch Borough Council and the Christchurch Community Partnership.

The new bus was launched by the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle and the Friends of Christchurch Dial-a-Bus along with representatives from the

organisations funding it.

The Mayor said: "I'm delighted that Dial-a-Bus now has its own vehicle which will enable people from Christchurch who cannot use normal bus services to get about to do shopping or go on excursions. This really is a valuable facility and I'm very grateful to everyone who provided the funding for it."

Sandra Prudom, Chairman of Christchurch Community Partnership, added: "We are hoping that the bus will becoming self-funding as we will be encouraging local Companies to advertise their services on the side of the bus which will provide some income for Dial-a-Bus but also support the Community Partnership."

Christchurch Dial-a-Bus scheme provides 'door to door' wheelchair accessible transport for people with disabilities of all ages who find it difficult to use existing public transport. The specially-adapted bus and trained staff take passengers to various destinations across Christchurch and beyond. It operates four days per week and can be used for shopping, banking, visiting hospital and excursions.

Leaflets describing excursions for the first quarter of 2012 are available at Christchurch and Highcliffe libraries and also at Christchurch Information Centre in the High Street, where bookings can be made. Booking for all trips can be made by calling the Information Centre on 01202 471780.
