Detectives investigating the robbery of an elderly woman in Christchurch are releasing an e-fit of the man responsible – with officers appealing for anyone with any information to contact them urgently.

The incident, in which a man entered a house along Bluebell Close in Highcliffe and snatched a 76-year-old woman's handbag before making off, happened at around 10am on Friday, 6 January 2012.

Detective Constable Rich Saunders, of Bournemouth CID, said: "Following further enquiries, I am now able to release an e-fit of the man responsible for this awful incident.

"The victim opened the door for the man, who then entered the house and grabbed hold of the bag, which was on her shoulder. In grabbing hold of the victim he has caused a cut to her arm."

The robber is white, not very tall, of an average or slight build, with a clear complexion and aged between 18 and 20. He was wearing black clothing.

DC Saunders continued: "Clearly, this was an extremely distressing robbery and the victim is understandably shocked and upset.

"Such an incident is very unusual for this area and I am appealing to anyone who recognises this man to contact me as soon as possible.

"Anyone with any information is urged to dial 101 in confidence. It may be that you know something that could help us bring this offender to justice."

Detectives have conducted house-to-house enquiries in the area and have provided reassurance to surrounding residents.

Anyone who witnessed this incident, or anyone who has any information that may assist the investigation, should contact Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident 6:119 or Crime stoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
