Christchurch Poppy Launch off to a great start.

Saturday saw the official Christchurch launch of the Poppy Appeal. The weather was kind and there was a wonderful atmosphere in Saxon Square.

The event kicked off with the Royal British Legion Riders Club booming into the square with a variety of motorbikes including Harley Davidsons.

The Christchurch Band of the Royal British Legion kept the crowd entertained throughout the morning, under the baton of guest conductor Phil Randell.

Also taking part in the fun was the Christchurch Air Training Corps, Sea and Army Cadets.

There was a climbing wall, mini replica spitfire and stalls which, of course included the Royal British Legion Stall.

Cadets wandered around selling poppies before the formal end of the launch, with a touching parade of banners into the square carried by a number of cadets representing each conflict past and present. They were marched into the Saxon Square to the rousing march "Children of the Regiment"

What a wonderful community event for Christchurch and what a wonderful start to Christchurch's Poppy Launch - Kicking off with over £1,000 raised for the Poppy Appeal.

If you haven't got your poppy by now, many shops around town will have them and the Poppy Collectors will no doubt be around town too.

The Christchurch Band of the Royal British Legion have recently returned from performances in Christchurch's twin town Aalen, Germany where a speech was made by their mayor promoting peace and harmony between countries.

The band can next be seen in concert at the Royal British Legion Club in Ferndown for an Armistice Concert. Tickets available from the club for just £5
