Christchurch Carnival Procession - "Lacklustre"

The Christchurch Carnival procession took place on Saturday afternoon, as part of a weekend of events and celebrations. Hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the parade of local floats. We were there to get crowd opinions, and we're sad to say, few people were impressed.
The Maritime Volunteer Service's carnival "effort"
During the procession we heard jeers and shouts of "More effort" and the crowd seemed bemused once the second fire engine marked the end of the show.
"It was rubbish, wasn't it?" said Alison (47) who had been watching with her family, "Really dissappointing."
Several people suggested that the current financial climate meant that people didn't have money to spend on hiring the equimpment necessary (flatbed trucks etc.) to put on a proper show.
Alan (73), remembered carnivals being more impressive when he was younger. "They used to have big floats, people really put some effort into coming up with them."
Geoff (52) said, "It was lacklustre, I'm kind of angry at myself for coming down. Half of it was adverts and the other half was queens from other carnivals."
The best response we could find was that, "The kids enjoyed it." from Lisa, (27).
The high street however was packed this afternoon and that's good news for traders.
