Christchurch's drivers face a trying two weeks as the Avon Causeway is closed for essential repairs in early November. The section of road between Matchams Lane and the bridge across the Avon will be completely closed Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm from Monday 5th November. The Causeway will then reopen for the weekend, then be closed again the following week. The works, which include restructuring and resurfacing, are due to be complete by Friday 16th November.

Head of Dorset Highways Operations Andrew Martin said: "Because of the narrow width of the road, and the nature of the work to strengthen the underlying road structure, we have to close the Avon Causeway for the ten days of work. We have spoken to local businesses on the route and informed them that wherever possible we will maintain access for them, but our work will inevitably cause delays."

A diversion route will be in place but drivers are being warned to allow extra time for journeys since the route will be significantly longer and the roads will be busier than usual.
